Nothing I could say would really do this book justice. It's a skillfully written, simply told true story about being a female teacher of Western literature in Iran in the late 1990's, a time of revolution and war and the coming of a certain sort of religious rule. It illuminates politics, revolution, religious oppression, the coping of ordinary people and the role of art and education, and the compromises that people make (or don't make) with evil.
You should read it.
