D'Shai, by Joel Rosenberg
Good fantasy / mystery story with an interesting take on magic
(Review posted 1 Jan 2005 17:20:58)

In this world each profession has its own special magic, its own kazuh. Our hero is an acrobat, but doesn't have the acrobat's magic. He has something else instead, and when his sister is murdered he (eventually) finds out what it is.

The mystery and its solution aren't utterly compelling, but the world and the characters and the magic paradigm are interesting and worth the (rather quick) read. There's one more book in this same world with this same protagonist; maybe I'll read that also.
