Can Gardner grind them out, or what? (Well, in 1968 he could, anyway.) From various lists turned up in a quick Web search, this seems to have been one of the last few Perry Mason books he wrote, and he was at the top of his form. Innocent client, nasty villains, planted evidence, bottles of poison, surprise chemical analyses, and no less than three instances of Mason springing into sudden and complex action, arranging without a moment to spare for the amusing and perfectly executed foiling of the bumbling police or District Attorneys or whatever.
Oh, and also a thorough and completely deadpan rant on the virtues of the lie detector test (sorry, "scientific interrogation by the use of a polygraph") in proving innocence. And a Forward by Gardner in praise of an M.D. who has worked tirelessly to promulgate the Medical Examiner system in Texas. Vintage stuff all around, and well worth the twenty-five cents.
