The Whenabouts of Burr, by Michael Kurland
Diverting alternate-worlds story centered, casually, on the Hamilton-Burr duel

A diverting alternate-worlds story centered, casually, on the Hamilton-Burr duel. Doesn't take itself terribly seriously, and real history buffs may be frustrated that it didn't do more with the putative premise (there's a piece in Pyramid magazine that does a better job of that). Written with a light and locular air, tongue often in cheek, and without too much (or even any) worry about the plausibility of the science. Ending veers off somewhat in Jasper Fforde flavor directions, if you know what I mean. If you enjoy characters flitting around between alternate worlds more or less at random, you'll probably enjoy the parts where characters flit around between alternate worlds more or less at random.
